Isamu Saito began his career producing baseball bats in Kawanecho, Japan. During World War II, Saito opened his woodworking shop, specializing in laminating several thin layers of wood together to create “molded plywood” for furniture and other household goods. The result is a lightweight, smooth wooden wastepaper basket that could be mistaken for Ray and Charles Eames.
